When you come across
a band that has the chops, Compositional zeal & Arrangement/Production
values that are solidly musical in intent, time is no factor More so, as time has
passed, it’s very obvious why a band that came forth from the original
new wave, has a lasting effect. No doubt why, several acts these days
are enjoying renewed artist merit & interest, for the true audiophile
The song that originally
came to our attention is “Tomorrow Night” . If you can find much better
of an effort, let all of us know, because there’s a huge market niche
& fan base for great songs ; Where people actually play instruments &
sing “Tomorrow Night” sways a listeners senses to another plateau entirely. Largely due to the intrinsic talent of Shoes, the band. Coupled with a 1/2 step chord progression & an unusual double string Electric Bass Guitar, the melody soars up into the sky. Upon this song, we
weight our review faultlessly. It’s on a par with The Byrds-[early era]
; The Raspberries & other American bands like 20/20 & The Plimsouls “The Summer Rain”
is another fine cut, with its augmentation of suspended 2nd’s & 4ths to
go along with major 7th chord patterns. For the audio-neophyte, this translates
into common mans’ language as a great song “Hate To Run”checks
in with another solid sonic piece of crafty work It appears to us that
Shoes offer a formidable basis to continue into their musical futures
& it’s up to the band as to which direction they might take at this place
in time. They certainly have the goods to travel far, out onto the horizonn |
