Johan Prosell has
brought us his solo work "Orange Drive To Seer Street" in audio chapters
of an engrossing novelette that is punctuated with cascading walls of
vocal layers like that of a rainbow reflecting in a waterfall of altruism
& a poignant vulnerability that is disarmingly charming. His artistic
partner Lars Sköld will be in creative collaboration on their next work
tentatively titled "Friend Zone" In songs such as "Bad
Hair Day" we are witness to some suburban biting commentary reflecting
perspectives of time & the effects of life & love on an off handedly jaded
character that we cannot help but feel affection towards. Perhaps, this
is because the subject reminds us a bit of ourselves. The jazzy jaded
sway-feel accented with acoustic guitars & pianos, saunters along in its
coffee & smoke swagger In the intimate Brit
pop flavored "So Long" with its theme of love lost & unrequited desire,
one perceives a sense of loneliness without feeling maudlin. Whereas in
a cut such as "Smitten Kitten" we are told the plaintive tale of succumbing
to affairs of the heart via a chorus of rich vocal harmonies & texture
In "Bored Beyond Belief"
a layer of acoustic guitars & inventive chromatic changes accompanies
a tambourine ; Segue into "Run" & this track offers up an upbeat positive
spin of melodic craft coupled with subtle endearing lyrics replete with
vox tiered harmonies The tune "Girlfriend"
is a sheer exercise in sonic intimacy of major seventh & suspended second
proportions, that encapsulates a zenith of creative & magnetic vocal charm.
This cut along with others shows why the work of Johan Prosell & Doublepark
is an eclectic celebration of melodic content. When you reach the electric
ensemble driven pop stylism of "What If" & its retro-modern mid tempo
suave, you realize that this music resonates a classic musical moment
that can stand the test of time as it whirls & rotates outwards towards
an ever widening arc of sonic audio art |
